Gun Control Essays (1365 words) - Gun Politics In The United States
Firearm Control The Second Amendment to the Constitution expresses that, A very much directed civilian army, being important to the security of a free express, the privilege of the individuals to keep and remain battle ready will not be encroached, and the meaning of weapon control is; government guideline of ownership and utilization of guns by private citizens(Levinson, 5). Weapon control just removes firearms from well behaved residents and it never really prevent hoodlums from purchasing illicit firearms, who are probably not going to comply with the law and register their guns(NRA 238). I feel that the term weapon control is inappropriately utilized. The legislature is utilizing it as an approach to take our entitlement to remain battle ready. For what reason would anybody need to possess a weapon? Bit of psyche is the principle reason I have a weapon. I feel significantly more secure comfortable realizing that I am near my best line of resistance. Weapons give a wellspring of mental consolatio n even among residents who are not particularly worried about the dread of wrongdoing of being victimized(Firearms 64). In an overview given about weapons, self-protection was the essential explanation given by one out of each five weapon proprietors for firearms(Firearms 61). The privilege of self-protection and the option to utilize guns for barrier of self and family are the foundation of individual rights identified in the US Constitution(Self-Defense 26). For what reason does the administration make it harder to secure ourselves? Police can't generally secure everybody. There are just around 500,000 cops all through the nation, which figures to around just 125,000 cops are on the job at some random chance to secure the entire country(Lee 9). Just seventeen percent of Americans give the police a lot of trust in ensuring them, while forty-six percent said they don't give them especially confidence(Carrying 32). Other than a protector or a law authorization official at ones side t wenty-four hours per day, the best obstruction to criminal assault is the hoodlums dread that the planned casualty is furnished and arranged to safeguard the person in question self(Carrying 33). Courts have decided that there is no sacred option to be secured by the state against being killed by lawbreakers or maniacs, which implies that police have no obligation to ensure the individual citizen(Tahmassebi 66). Subsequent to hearing this, I confide in the police even less. What is the probability of being effectively assaulted when you are outfitted? Lawbreakers dread furnished citizens(Self-Defense 22). Casualties who utilized firearms for security were more outlandish either to be assaulted or harmed than casualties who reacted in some other manner, including the individuals who didnt oppose by any means; and casualties no opposed burglars with a weapon were less inclined to lose their property. At the point when casualties use firearms to oppose wrongdoings, the violations typic ally are disturbed and the casualties are not injured(Self-Defense, 24). A genuine case of gun prevention originates from an assault analyze done in Orlando. Orlando offered an instructional class to ladies close by weapon self protection, which was taken by 6,000 women(Firearms 64). A year after the program started, the assault rate in Orlando dropped very nearly ninety percent(Firearms 64). The police power protested in Albuquerque, New Mexico; during this time, the crime percentage diminished on the grounds that scared residents outfitted themselves and secured their homes and businesses(Firearms 69). Lawbreakers had no stomach at all for confronting rankled residents ensuring their own property with a similar power the crooks used to take it(Firearms 69). Handgun possession turns away a huge number of casualty wounds and passings that would not have been avoidable given the strategic points of interest that lawbreakers have over unarmed citizens(Lee 7). Who might you rather have ensuring you? In Chicago in a normal year, more lawbreakers are shot by storekeepers and other equipped residents than by the whole police force(Firearms 69). In April 1984 three fear mongers assaulted a bistro in Jerusalem with programmed weapons, proposing to slaughter everybody in sight; they had the option to guarantee just a single casualty before they were fired by a handgun-outfitted Israelis(Lee 3). In 1980, between 1,500-3,000 criminals were lawfully murdered by furnished regular folks in self-protection or for related-legitimately advocated reasons; and extra 8,700-16,600 lawbreakers were legitimately injured under similar conditions. In the event that these figures are exact, at that point regular people murder and harm unquestionably more

The coolest spring break ever
The coolest spring break ever While Iâm sure some of you have a good sense of what I do as an Admissions Counselor at MIT providing information sessions to on-campus visitors, reading your applications, and duking it out with my colleagues in our selection committee (just kidding, itâs much less fighting and much more agonizing) that is all actually just a portion of my day-to-day work. At MIT, each admissions officer also sits on a team that manages other aspects of our office. As a counselor on the Visit Team, I get to help ensure that your campus visit experience is as informative as possible. From recruiting and training our student tour guides to assisting with our check-in process, I get to see many of you who come to Cambridge to learn more about MIT. As a former college tour guide myself, I thought Iâd give you all some advice as the spring break and summer season begins and you may be considering visiting a college campus. Why Visit? Some of you may be wondering, whatâs the point of visiting in the first place? Well, there are many! At its core, I believe a good campus visit can help you understand the culture of a campus community as you navigate whether that community is the right one for you. A great line Iâve stolen from my amazing colleague Jessica is that your goal should not be simply getting into a college; your goal should be to graduate. And quite frankly, graduating from college is tough! Now, Iâm not saying taking a campus tour will ensure that you graduate. That would be overlooking the many structural barriers in place that cause college students to drop out. Research has demonstrated that first-generation-to-college students, underrepresented students of color, and students from less financial capital all face huge obstacles (including microaggressions, lack of funding, overt acts of racism, sexism, transphobia, etc.) that make graduating from college challenging. I fully believe we must continue to work against these systems so that all students have a fair shot at graduating. However, since we know that there are so many challenges to graduating, I believe one way students can increase their odds is to feel confident that the college they enroll in is a college where they would be happiest. Finding a space where you can feel happy and supported, a place where there are others who have the same interests that you do, and a place where you feel belonged can help you reach out for help when you need it and find peers who relate to the same challenges youâre going through. Sadly, I think many students apply to MIT because of its reputation, and I strongly believe a reputation isnât the best reason to select a college. Thus, since Iâve welcomed tens of thousands of visitors to different campuses throughout my career, I thought Iâd share some tips and tricks with you all! Tips Tricks Do ask good questions (that arent on the website) Campus visits are the perfect time to ask all of the questions you have about a place. It is my job to be a resource to you all when you visit campus, and our student tour guides sign up because they want to answer questions. Ask away and donât get nervous about what youâre asking! That being said it does get frustrating when I get asked questions like, âWhat is your application deadline?â or âWhat are the SAT requirements for MIT?â I know weâre all coming at this from different levels; however, you should utilize a quick Google Search before asking questions that can be easily answered online. While we donât track demonstrated interest at MIT (meaning you donât get bonus points on your application for visiting campus), some schools do! Additionally, at schools with regionalized offices, the person you asked that question to could be the person who reviews your application later (and may have taken notes about the types of questions you asked!). Donât get nervous if your parent makes a corny âdad jokeâ Look, I get it. Youâre on a campus tour, you see someone who could be your next campus crush, and then right in the middle of a large group of college students your dad pulls out the joke that makes you want to melt into the floor right where youâre standing. The good news for you is, we receive tons of visitors every day at MIT (and so do most colleges!). We also receive tons of âdad jokesâ every day. I promise that a silly experience on a campus tour will not follow you throughout your entire college career. Heres a good one I enjoy: Do notice whatâs going on outside of the tour Itâs always a good idea to note if any special campus events are going on during your visit. Perhaps a campus feels empty, but if you discover the students are on spring break, that might explain the smaller amount of students you see. Perhaps there is a ton of student activity in a common area, but you later learn that an activist demonstration was taking place on campus that had been planned for months. College campuses are bustling environments with different events happening all the time, so try to understand the context of the day of your visit. Itâs also a good idea to look at flyers and posters in the hallways. What events are happening on the weekend? What companies are coming to campus to recruit new hires? These are all things you can get a feel for by just looking around during your tour. Donât be rude to admissions staff members I get it; sometimes itâs hard to be nice. At MIT, our building numbers are incredibly confusing, some cell phone carriers donât have strong signals in certain areas of campus, and weather in New England isnât always the most reliable. However, I have seen many visitors take out their frustrations on the first admissions staff person they see. Again, we do not track demonstrated interest or take notes on visitors and add them to application files; but OTHER COLLEGES DO! At a previous institution I worked for, we would provide notes on students who stayed for overnight visit programs and relay them directly to the admissions officer who is reading their file. While this piece of advice is mostly for other schools, on a personal note, itâs nice to interact with friendly people (so even though we donât track interest, Iâm a fan of being nice to strangers!). Do imagine yourself on the campus Again, the campus visit is all about you finding your place on-campus. Is there an activity you do in high school that youâd feel incomplete if you didnât continue in college? Are there aspects of your identity that youâd want to learn more about? Are there particular resources you know youâll need to be successful both socially and academically? I donât know if we have all of those things for you at MIT, and theyâre clearly different for each individual student but itâs important you ask and find out! I canât say this enough graduating from college is tough! Make it a little easier for yourself by doing appropriate research ahead of time. Donât let one perspective color your entire visit Throughout my career, Iâve attended at least 10 official campus visit programs for various universities. Any individual student you meet can provide you with one perspective of a place. Do not let only one perspective color your entire view. Perhaps that student is in the majority opinion, and more research can reassure your decision to not like a campus community. More often than not, however, Iâd assume that a student you didnât necessarily vibe with could just be a part of a community that you wouldnât join. As someone who was interested in student of color resources, college radio, and community service, if my tour guide were a fraternity member who played a competitive sport and was involved in the pre-med society, we probably wouldnât have a lot in common. Ask admissions officers or tour guides how you can connect with particular spaces on campus, connect with certain students, etc. Canât Visit? The last note I would mention is that campus visits arenât always an option for everyone, particularly considering the cost (and sometimes the risk) of traveling. Additionally, you may only have a limited amount of time to visit schools, and if your colleges are in many different locations, you may not get to all of them. That being said, I believe a lot of this advice works in other ways as well. Some schools have virtual tours, you can look up student groups on YouTube, many universities utilize social media, and Iâve seen a growing number of Webinar or Live Chats from colleges. Do your research with any tools you can!

Analysis Of The Book Young Goodman Brown And The...
Nathaniel Hawthorne and Washington Irving are two of the most prolific and successful writers of their era. Hawthorneââ¬â¢s, ââ¬Å"Young Goodman Brownâ⬠is a story about a man, Goodman Brown who happens to set out on a trip for an evil purpose. On the way he meets a man who offers him his staff, saying that it might help him walk faster, but Goodman Brown refuses and wishes to return back to his village for the sake of his wife, Faith. On the other hand, Irvingââ¬â¢s, ââ¬Å"The Devil and Tom Walkerâ⬠is about an individual who lets his greed and selfishness take charge of him. Tom Walker, a greedy man, attempts to make a deal with a devil. Tom seeks wealth and in return the devil asks for his soul. In both stories, the authors express their feelings and views about staying away from indulgence and sin. In spite of all the difference among Hawthorneââ¬â¢s, ââ¬Å"Young Goodman Brownâ⬠and Irvingââ¬â¢s, ââ¬Å"The Devil and Tom Walker,â⬠they share sal ient similarities such as setting, symbolism, and authorââ¬â¢s purpose. To begin with, Hawthorne and Irving portray a similar use of setting in their works of literature. Both authors illustrate a gloomy setting which takes place in remote areas of Massachusetts around the same period of time. For instance, ââ¬Å"The Devil and Tom Walkerâ⬠takes place in a historical area settled by Quakers and Puritans where religion and virtue is widespread among the people. Leadership philosophies Free Essays
string(235) " autocratic leadership the leader assumes the role of a humble servant to the others in the group thereby getting closer to them and assuring them that what matters is the advancement of the goals and the achievement of their purpose\." There are many types of leadership philosophies that all require a clearness of purpose to be successful. Their difference lies in their approach to dealing with the subject of leadership and followership. It is essential to define leadership philosophy first before engaging in a long discussion on the types that comprise it. We will write a custom essay sample on Leadership philosophies or any similar topic only for you Order Now So what is exactly a leadership philosophy? Encarta defines philosophy as 1. Examination of basic concepts: the branch of knowledge or academic study devoted to the systematic examination of basic concepts such as truth, existence, reality, causality, and freedom 2. School of thought: a particular system of thought or doctrine 3. Guiding or underlying principles: a set of basic principles or concepts underlying a particular sphere of knowledge 4. Set of beliefs or aims: a precept, or set of precepts, beliefs, principles, or aims, underlying somebodyââ¬â¢s practice or conduct Leadership philosophy is therefore based on a set of ideas and beliefs that set the example to how many people experience their lives or envision their future. Leadership philosophy is an understanding combined with a purpose for the aim of advancing the general good. Leaders use different and various philosophies to motivate their followers whether those are citizens or employees. The type of philosophy adopted by a leader usually depends on the outcomes desired. For instance, a common type of leadership philosophy adopted by business employers is enlightened philosophy where the ideas of the employees themselves are used to change, improve and advance the organization. The leader assumes the role of the guide and inquires into what people would like to see within the organization thereby effectively involving them in the process and making them feel useful. The employees or followers give their opinion, suggest the ideas they would like to see in reality coming out and compose a plan through which to achieve that. This all is done under the directive leadership of a person who assumes the role of counselor, advisor and guide without imposing his views on the process and thereby securing both the involvement of the followers as well as their productive happiness since they would feel more useful when they can contribute to improving their lives with their ideas. Not all philosophies work or achieve the desired effect. One of the less successful philosophies, in contrast to the successful enlightening type of leadership philosophy that has already been mentioned, is called the ââ¬Å"groupthinkâ⬠. It is very similar to the enlightening philosophy where the people are supported to give their opinion and share their ideas. However what makes the groupthink less desirable as a leadership philosophy is that it mainly supports the person who develops the idea but does not examine the idea in itself. (Baird) As a consequence of this, bad policies are often made official since the leaderââ¬â¢s role was limited to supporting instead of both supporting and criticizing the ideas that were developed. It is therefore essential that a leader combines between the role of guide and critique in an open discussion of ideas exchange to both secure the inclusion of only good ideas as well as keep the atmosphere competitive and fresh which would not happen if all ideas are passed. The next type of leadership philosophy to be examined is called the autocratic leadership and it is a style that is, as the name might suggest, full of tyranny and despotism which makes it thus very similar to dictatorship and completely different from the two types of leadership styles that have been mentioned so far and that are more democratic in nature. The autocratic leadership style is mainly seen in governments just like the enlightening leadership philosophy is mainly applied in businesses. The autocratic style involves more negative than positive sides and that is mainly because the type of rule associated with it is one of complete control and lack of freedom which goes against humanââ¬â¢s most basic need and essential human aspect. Though this style is more likely to be found in governments businesses do have tyrants themselves. For instance a CEO may fire any employee who does not agree with him which connotes lack of diversity and a suffocated repressed atmosphere where the worker or citizen is not able to achieve his true potential. The next example in leadership philosophy is the servant style of leading others. While most leaders tend to lead others with the assumption that that requires a certain traditional superior attitude, experience and research have proven that the inclusion of the followers in the process is more likely to produce the desired results. A more humble and less arrogant attitude is therefore more appreciated from the leader himself. It is understandable and logical to think of leaders as little bit over the top figures who are in a way part of the group but still above it. But as stated, this approach might not produce the best environment for all and therefore a servant leadership style is the best solution for the problem. Servant leadership opposes autocratic leadership and as has been exemplified autocratic leadership usually fails. Paul McDaniel in his article How to Practice Servant Leadership illustrates the role of the servant leader very clearly and eloquently in the following words A servant leader acts as a steward to the organizationââ¬â¢s financial, human, and other resources. Servant Leadership emphasizes trust, empathy, collaboration, and the ethical use of power. At the heart of servant leadership, the individual leader of an organization is a servant first. He or she makes a conscious decision to lead in order to better serve others, not to increase his or her own power. The servant leaderââ¬â¢s objective is to enhance the growth of individuals in the organization and increase teamwork and personal involvement. It is interesting to observe these different types of leadership and to also reflect on what makes one more successful than another. In the case of servant leadership versus autocratic leadership the leader assumes the role of a humble servant to the others in the group thereby getting closer to them and assuring them that what matters is the advancement of the goals and the achievement of their purpose. You read "Leadership philosophies" in category "Leadership" After all true leadership emerges from the true desire to help others. Through becoming more familiar with the group one assures that positive change is more assured as he can allocate the different tasks in a more effective manner to those who can perform them best. It also guarantees the trust of the follower in the leader when the latterââ¬â¢s personality and agenda are better understood. Servant leadership is a way through which to foster trust into each other and creates an environment where the voice of every member counts which makes a joyful working and living environment more possible. Enlightening, autocratic and servant leadership have been mentioned so far. The next types of leadership philosophy that deserve a closer inspection are the ethical leadershipâ⬠¦.. and the collective leadership. The latter is hard to define since it is still a relatively new area which makes and many people have different theories about it. Collective leadership has been defined by Alain Gauthier as Co-leadership that embraces the diversity of people and perspectives and frees up self-initiative and collective intelligence. When practiced across sectors, it creates the conditions for societal learning and innovation through an increased sense of interdependence and a deeper trust in self-organization. It is commonly agreed that it incorporates cultural and technological resources in a manner that allows people to work together better for the advancement of the communityââ¬â¢s prosperity. Collective leadership is only possible when the members of a group have formed a closer bond with each other and therefore can work better together. Collectivity after all is more about the ââ¬Å"weâ⬠than the ââ¬Å"Iâ⬠. Ethical Leadership is when the leader is very familiar with the essential values of his convictions and has the vision and courage to live up to them and include them in his work and realization of his goals. Ethical leadership combines between the inner values and beliefs of the leader in question and the behavior and external conditions of the outside world. People who want to make a difference need to combine between their vision, and all that comes along with it in terms of integrity and clearness of purpose, and their commitment to do well and make a difference. Ethical leadership assumes that only through embracing the inner journey one can really express and realize the outer one. To understand what makes a person a leader it is essential to first grasp what differentiates him from a follower. A person does not need to be a hero to be a leader. Leadership does not come in one form or type and different type of people suit different forms of leadership. Leadership does not have a gender requirement. Men and women can both lead. The secret lies in convincing others of your ability to realize their dreams and advance the common good. As stated leadership comes in many forms just like the leader does. People naturally differ in how they define the word in itself and nobody can say that their vision is right or wrong since the issue is broad and left to different interpretations. Followers naturally expect leaders to show them things and set for them an example. They expect the leader to take care of their needs and therefore it follows that being a leader is neither an easy job nor one that anyone can conduct regarding the many responsibilities attached to it. Leadership philosophies are based on the vision and experiences of the leader. Leadership is never stagnant as it is always a subject of continues development depending on the circumstances and the different ideas the leader himself might develop over time. Leadership philosophy is therefore a subject of continues growth regarding its attachment to the human nature who is never stagnant and always seeks change and new ideas. Many of the leadership philosophies that are practiced nowadays were used by the Marine Corps and involve ââ¬Å"Justice, judgment, dependability, initiative, decisiveness, integrity, loyalty and enthusiasmâ⬠(Leadership Philosophies). Each of these terms will be given a ore thoughtful explanation in the following regarding the importance of each word in defining the various leadership philosophies and understanding them. Justice makes an individual more consistent and better valued. It makes the leader avoid criticism of favoritism and therefore decreases the tension in the group. The ability to use judgment to avoid being accused of favoring one person above the other is therefore very important for a leader. Dependability on the other hand is ââ¬Å"is the willing and voluntary support of the policies and orders of the chain of commandâ⬠(Wright, 1984/2002). Being dependable means being reliable and therefore trustworthy which are obviously great and essential characteristic in a leader. Along with this goes initiative that shows enthusiasm and sets the example. A good leader needs to always set the right and best example to inspire the followers. (Leadership Philosophies) Decisiveness shows the ability to make a decision and therefore the ability to lead. This again increases the trust of the group in the leader and secures success. Loyalty on the other hand shows commitment to the group and its goals and enhances the trust of the people in the leader. It shows integrity and honesty and these are essential traits of a good leadership philosophy. Leadership philosophies are very different but at the core they have the same purpose in mind which is leading. Leaders are thus guided by their leadership philosophy. The question that might arise in relevance to the different types of leadership is whether it is better as a leader to be feared or loved. As has been discussed previously autocratic leadership is less successful than the enlightening or servant form of leadership. However, Harvard professor Scott Snook provides a different interpretation of the issue. He illustrates through two examples that different leadership styles do not necessarily result in the success of one above the other. He argues that leadership is essentially influenced by human nature and therefore by the philosophy of the person in charge. Though different in approach both leaders still have the same vision which is success and achievement of goals. He provides the following two examples to enhance this theory further. Bobby Knight Bobby Knight, also known as ââ¬Å"The General,â⬠is the head coach at Texas Tech University. Heââ¬â¢s a fiery, in-your-face taskmaster who leads through discipline and intimidation, which some critics say goes too far. Knight was fired from a long career at Indiana University for grabbing a student, and prior to that he was filmed clutching one of his own players by the neck. And then there was the infamous incident during a game when Knight tossed a folding chair across the court to protest a refereeââ¬â¢s call. Mike Krzyzewski Mike Krzyzewski, also known as Coach K, leads the menââ¬â¢s basketball program at Duke University. Instead of fear, Krzyzewski relies heavily on positive reinforcement, open and warm communication, and caring support. For Coach K, ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s about the heart, itââ¬â¢s about family, itââ¬â¢s about seeing the good in people and bringing the most out of them,â⬠says Snook. (Ambler) Both coaches achieved desirable results with their teams despite the different leadership philosophies they believed in. To be successful in one of these types of leadership it is however essential to be fully convinced of it being the right style for you. Ones actions have to be in harmony with oneââ¬â¢s words and that is only guaranteed if the leader knows where he stands. The success of a leadership philosophy therefore depends on the leaderââ¬â¢s full awareness and adherence to it which is the only way through which to guarantee the right implementation of it. Leadership is about inspiring others. This leads the discussion to creative leadership where leaders search for opportunities and introduce change through discovering them. Creative leadership is about solving problems no matter what they are as it evolves around finding new and creative methods to approach things. Creative leadership inspires people to do great things and encourages them to always improve their performance and keep their attitude at all times positive and forward-looking. People perform the required task for a manager but an inspirational leader makes them do their entire best and put all their effort in, not only for financial reasons but because they feel inspired. The following picture illustrates the working dimension of inspirational or creative leadership. How to cite Leadership philosophies, Essays

The Existentialism of Metamorphosis free essay sample
The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines existentialism as a concept of [assuming] ultimate responsibility for acts of free will, this meaning that a person has control over their ultimate destination In life through the choices they make. Some may say that this describes Metamorphosis and the journey that Gregor undertakes. The novella is, in truth, a perfect example of the opposite of existentialism. The first counter-argument to the idea of existentialism that presents itself in the novella was at the very beginning. The event that sparks the entire story, Gregors transformation, is entirely outside the realm of his control. He awoke and found himself changed into a monstrous vermin (3). Not only does Gregor not have control of the situation, he doesnt even know that anything has happened to him until he wakes up. He has no choice in the matter of turning into a giant insect. This transformation disgusts Gregors family. Over time, it turns them against him, even though everything Gregor does in his life seems to be centered around the happiness and comfortability of his family. We will write a custom essay sample on The Existentialism of Metamorphosis or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page He works as a traveling salesman to pay off the debts of his parents, and had even planned to send his sister away to perfect her skills at playing the vlolln. Eventually his entire family grows to resent him, even his sister whom he cared so deeply for, and who takes care of Gregor when he first changes. She eventually even goes as far as to say that the family must try to get rid of [Gregory (51 With total disregard to all of the things he has done for them, his family leaves him virtually abandoned. This same abandonment is what eventually leads to Gregors death. When he first hanges, his sister takes the time to pay attention to what he does and does not like. When she realizes that he Ilkes to crawl on the walls, she tries to move furniture so that he can do so more easily. She brought him all types of food so that she could know what he would eat. However, as time marches on, she gives no thought to Gregor. She barely feeds him, and when she does, she makes no effort to give him food that he actually finds edible. Giving Gregor space no longer becomes a priority, and extra furniture is moved into his room, which is never even cleaned anymore. This neglect drives him to death, partially from starvation, and partially from the lack ofa will to live and be a burden to the people that he loves. Some people may argue the existentialism and that Gregor could have done more to try to fix his situation. There are very few things Gregor could have done. He could no longer communicate with his family, and therefore could not connect with them on a personal level. This is why Gregor has no freedom of choice. His family wrote him off as a beast, and as something that could not be reasoned with. The only eason they kept him alive was out of a sense of obligation to their son. Eventually this feeling of obligation wore off, The events that happen to and around Gregor that affect him and change his life are completely outside his control. This lack of choice is what makes this story not about existentialism, but about the effects of being separated from fellow mankind and not being given the ability to make choices. over their ultimate destination in life through the choices they make. Some may say that this describes Metamorphosis and the Journey that Gregor undertakes. Statistical concepts essays
Statistical concepts essays Statistical concepts have literally thousands of applications. These include both the hard' sciences and social sciences but also fields such as political science. Statistics are so key to the nature of certain fields that most of them could not exist without concepts such as the The mean, median and mode are often used in political campaigns. These campaigns are designed to appeal to targeted demographics, which form the basis for blocks of voters. Presidential speeches are designed to specifically appeal to a hypothesized median' voter. Swing votes often represent a mode or block' of voters who can be expected to vote in a similar fashion. Where the political support of one's party members can be predicted with safety, the fate of elections always swings with popular opinion. If the opinion of the hypothetical median' citizen were not courted to, one of the two parties would eventually become marginalized. A concept like the Axis of Evil' or Lock Box' seems adolescent to university professors and political analysts, but speechwriters didn't have these people in mind when they created the concept; by definition, the mean IQ is 100. Political pundits see their voters in groups like Soccer Moms;' concerned mothers who vote in the interest of their families. On any given opinion, these groups constitute modes reflecting a certain Political campaigns use extensive population sampling in order to gather data. These often revolve around the outcome of polls conducted by the Gallup company. After a speech is made, questions will be designed to neutrally assess the opinion of those who listened to the speech. Gallup approaches a group with a large enough sample size to diminish the margin of error. They'll ask questions such as "what do you think of candidate Shwartzenegger's comments regarding the terminally ill" so as to assess ...

But I Dont Have Clips
But I Dont Have Clips When pitching to freelance markets, you feel the need to demonstrate your prowess. After all, your query is a resume of sorts, with you proving to the other side that you have what it takes to write for them. But what if you have not published yet? My best suggestion for this dilemma is to write for trade magazines to collect those first clips. Why? Because they are more interested in you being an expert in a subject than being a writer. My first clips came about not because I was a writer, but because of my experiences and educational background. You have that same opportunity. My very first clip was an essay in an anthology about my Christmas divorce. I never stated I could write or that Id never published before. I just wrote well and submitted. While it wasnt a trade, it was a clip. I could call myself a writer. Not long after, I pitched to a landscape management magazine, a trade. My degree is in agronomy, so when a landscaper came to the door of my newly constructed home, asking if he could give me an estimate for some work, I said sure. Unfortunately, he started talking to me as if I barely knew what dirt was, talking in elementary terms. I let him go on and on until finally I told him about my degree and maybe he could now talk seriously about what he could offer me. That afternoon I pitched that piece and received an acceptance in thirty minutes. I had a clip. I pitched an article about grants for writers to Writers Digest. Having recently left a career with the federal government, I understood where grants were and how to apply. They not only purchased it, but reprinted it several times, paying me each time. I moved not long after and again found myself putting sod down on a new yard, only it was three acres and required an irrigation system. I pitched TURF Magazine and did a profile on the company that installed my system, offering the pictures as well. My youngest son struggled in college, making me gray-headed with worry. So I did a piece on where a college student could find moral support on a college campus for College Bound Teen. I pitched a piece to a womens business newsletter about fighting the glass ceiling and enduring an EEO case. See? Step back from your life and note your experience. Therein lies your first clip. Its easier than you think. Just never let them know youve never published before, and they can solely focus on the experience you do have.

Finance - Fixed Income Securities Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Finance - Fixed Income Securities - Essay Example The market participants usually consider the risk free investments such as government treasuries as well as other securities as bench mark to measure and compare the term structure of the different fixed income securities. Depending upon the nature of the relationship, different shapes of the term structure can be obtained in order to analyze how the interest rates are behaving against their maturities and how the market may respond to the future changes. Though above description may seem easy to follow however, determining the term structure exactly or with relative accuracy is really difficult. Different models have been developed to understand the term structure in better way and as such efforts by Vasicek and Cox- Ingersoll-Ross seem to be two of the most important theoretical advances ever made in this direction. This paper is divided into two parts, in first part, a detailed description of the Term Structure models of Vasicek and Cox- Ingersoll-Ross will be discussed along with their benefits whereas in second part of this essay, an analysis will be provided as to whether both the models can empirically be supported or not and which model is more suitable for empirical testing. Vasickeââ¬â¢s model is one of the earliest term structure models and is probably the first serious effort towards studying the term structure models from an academic point of view. Vasickeââ¬â¢s model is based on two basic assumptions while dealing with the term structure of the interest rates. First, it assumes that the whole term structure depends upon the given interest rates for a very short period of time. This interest rate is considered as the spot rate and as such the spot rates are considered as mean reversing in nature.(Beninniga & Czaczkes,2000). One of the most important characteristics of the Vasickeââ¬â¢s model is the fact that it is a one factor model and is a

Vulnerable Population and Self-Awareness Research Paper
Vulnerable Population and Self-Awareness - Research Paper Example Most of these people fall under the categories of people with disabilities, children, and the elderly. The Service Community Assessment of Needs state that these groups are considered most vulnerable due to their being unaware of their situation and the lack of services and resources made available to them (Poirrier, 2001, p.73). Furthermore, these groups are very much dependent on other groups to fight for their welfare since they are mostly unable to do it on their own. A big percentage of these people are within the poverty level, and the concern does not yet include those who may be HIV positive, or may be suffering from mental issues, etc. As a nurse, one should understand that dealing with the vulnerable population is more than counting the numbers or acquiring percentages (Poirrier, 2001, p.36-7). It is about eliminating the factors that put these people into these situations. However, in this paper, a different view of vulnerable population will be discussed. Young adults may not normally be deemed as vulnerable in terms of nursing or health care. However, there are certain factors that show that this population is as susceptible as the elderly, the children, or the people with disabilities in terms of access to proper and adequate health care VULNERABLE POPULATION AND SELF-AWARENESS 3 (Poirrier, 2001, p.74). ... ople are are the peak of their strength and capabilities, and are given more options or choices compared to other age brackets (Stergiopoulos, Dewa, Durbin, Chau and Svoboda, 2010, p.1033). While this may be true in certain aspects, there is one big factor that prove this population can be as exposed to harm as the other vulnerable populations. Most of my researches and observations are within the community setting. I have seen and heard about homeless young people who are picked up from the streets and sent to the E.R. at every dangerous rise or fall of the temperature. I have seen and heard about young people experiencing the trauma of unwanted pregnancies, sexual assaults, or sexually transmitted diseases at a time when they are too young to be prepared for such major life events, just because they are living in the streets. As I go on seeing and hearing about these people, I have come to realize that these young individuals are as vulnerable as the ones that the health industry c onsider. My major concern here is the ââ¬Å"harm being done to this population that will reflect further in their livesâ⬠(Poirrier, 2001, p.74-5). The National Healthcare for the Homeless Council states that among those falling under the 18-24 age bracket, a big percentage experience homelessness, and that the number continues to rise annually (Stergiopoulos et al., 2010, p.1032). Homelessness among these young adults reach up to 2 million a year (Stanhope and Lancaster, 2008, p.213). This alone speaks a lot about the large number of individuals exposed to multiple dangers and susceptibilities daily. This, too, VULNERABLE POPULATION AND SELF-AWARENESS 4 tells us that they require much-needed attention as much as the other considered vulnerable populations in the health industry. Furthermore,

Marriot and Hilton both offers Wedding Ceremonies package while Holiday Inn does not making it lack on this part. Holiday Inn has this exclusive senior package offer along with special kids discounts making it a good and attractive selection for its customer while Hilton will easy win the hearts by its different, exclusive and unique kinds of packages. Both holiday Inn and Marriot has other activities offering like spa, fitness center helping it to make it at the top again therefore it was correct to state that these three establishments are updating themselves with nothing less than the best in order to stay and make its place in this competitive market. TARGET MARKET: The target market of all these three establishments is upper class economy on which they are focusing immensely by providing them with all the luxuries they wish for and charging them for every facility they offer. However at some reference you will also come to notice that target market of these establishments are considered to be middle class economy which is absolutely wrong or miss understood because the price per package offered by all three establishments are beyond the affordability of any middle class family. These establishments are design for upper class or business men and are providing them with best service any hospitality organization can offer. CONCLUSION: From the data mentioned above and by discussing about the three hospitality establishment we can conclude that all three of them are providing their customers with the best service, brining new and innovative ideas in order to keep themselves ahead in hospitality industry. There packages are attractive and are economical for upper class however the one with the best offering in my opinion would be Marriot Corporation as it has all the facilities that the other two establishments have as well as other exclusive offerings as well making it superior than the other two. Second in the list would by Holiday Inn while the third position will be to Hilton among the three. However the basic facilities provided by all the three establishments are more or less same and the other exclusive offering on which we are ranking them, depends upon your affordability. Health and My Body Care
Health is the most important thing in a personââ¬â¢s life. It is the biggest personal property. Every person should think more about his health because when health is lost, everything is lost. Good health is better than the best medicine. And if your health is good, you are always in a good mood. But sickness in the body brings sickness to the mind. It even can cause of economic burdens for family. So we shouldnââ¬â¢t wait when health comes like a bolt from the blue, we should do something ourselves. As for me I have many ways to take care of my health. For example, I do morning exercises in the morning. It doesnââ¬â¢t take much time and I can feel bright, I can get back my energy after a long sleep. I try to take long walks in the open air as often as I can. But when the weather is not very bad I sleep with my window open. I also like playing some sports: biking or badminton. I think sport is very important in our life. It is a way leading you to the healthy life. And playing sport is useful for our health. I also have the strict dayââ¬â¢s routine. I never do my homework very late in the evening. Evening is my rest time. All my life is planned. I usually try to plan everything ahead so I donââ¬â¢t have to hurry. Beside the dayââ¬â¢s activities, food is a factor to improve my health. I eat three times a day. I never miss breakfast or overfeed. I like eating a lot of vegetables and fresh fruit, drink fruit juice.Sugar and fat is a few and I also use a little meat and salt. I also keep my body clean, wear clean clothes. Looking at a person who is clean and orderly dressed you can feel better too. Hairbrushes, toothbrushes are not lent. Every person should use only his personal things. Thatââ¬â¢s all about my body care. I think if you have a good health you can do everything. Health and wellness brings about a drastic improvement in the overall quality of your life.
